The world's first

sail wind turbine

Climate change requires new renewable solutions. In order to sustainably generate wind power in harmony with human beings and nature, we have to move away from huge wind turbines and expensive infrastructure with long transport routes.

Like solar energy, wind energy must be produced where it can be used directly: in the cities.

With our sail wind turbine, we offer a new generation of wind turbine that uses a sail instead of a rotor.

Our system has a total height of 5 m and is suitable for roofs, carports or open spaces. The sail is made of high-performance materials used in sailing and measures 4 m x 2.2 m. It offers the wind an effective area of around 9 square meters. The frame is made of light and at the same time extremely stable materials such as GRP. This is how we guarantee safe operation and a long service life.

With up to 2,000 kWh per year, we relieve your electricity bill and reduce your CO2 footprint by up to 1.2 tons. Our system can also be expanded in a modular way or scaled to meet your individual energy requirements.

Our sail begins to produce electricity at average wind speeds of 2 m/s. Moreover, the unsteady wind conditions on roofs and in cities are just right for our wind energy converter. The locally generated energy can be consumed directly on site or fed into the grid. In addition to green energy production, our sail is also a real eye-catcher with a maritime flair.

Wind Gusts: An untapped urban resource

A gust of wind is the strongest form of wind. It is caused by flow effects in the air or near the ground when wind hits obstacles such as mountains, trees or buildings. Wind turbines were not developed for sudden gusts of wind. They need constant wind, which is usually only available at high altitudes. That's why wind turbines keep growing into the sky. Until now, manufacturers of wind turbines have tended to regard gusts of wind as disruptive factors and not as a resource for wind energy.

We have developed a different perspective and focus on the great energy potential of wind gusts. Because gusts of wind easily have twice the wind speed of the average wind and can be found everywhere in cities, as a windy day in Berlin in 2023 clearly shows.

When the wind blows, we invite you to take a glance out of a window at the nearest tree. You'll see it swing from side to side. This shows how unsteady the wind is near the ground. The functional principle of our technology is derived from the natural swinging of a tree. We replaced the boom with a sail and refined it so that its motion adapts to the natural wind conditions in urban areas. Thus, turbulence and gusts of wind are not a disadvantage for our sail, but give it exactly the right flow.

These movements have a lot of power and are sent to generators to produce electricity. Once a wind gust has passed, our sail swings back to its original position. With every new gust of wind, our sail power plant is driven anew, almost perennial. The fact that our system can already generate electricity at an average wind speed of 2 m/s is due to the use of wind gusts, which can easily reach 4 m/s.

The fact that the operation of our sail power plant is hardly audible is another important advantage of our technology and is a basic requirement for us to generate electricity in harmony with human and nature.
